Stories of Clarity, Purpose, and Hope: CrossPoint Church
The work of renewal is not just seen in numbers, but in stories.
In our new series: Stories of Clarity, Purpose, and Hope we share reflections from both church leaders and VitalChurch Ministry Intentional Interim Pastors as they look back on where the church began, how God worked through the process, and the new season that followed.
When VitalChurch Ministry came alongside CrossPoint, the church was in many ways healthy and growing. Attendance was strong, the church had influence in the community, and they had recently expanded their facility. Yet leaders sensed a lack of clarity about the future. Questions surfaced about vision, decision-making, and how disciples were being formed. The congregation had many good opportunities available, but there was little alignment to help people know their next step in following Jesus.
During the transition season, with the help of intentional interim pastoral support, the church slowed down to pray, evaluate, and refocus. Through a guided focusing process, CrossPoint refreshed its mission, vision, and values. The board adopted a policy governance model that brought greater role clarity and strengthened unity, while also allowing leaders to serve with both freedom and accountability. At the same time, the church began developing a clear discipleship pathway so that spiritual growth would no longer feel scattered but purposeful and connected to the church’s calling.
As this work took shape, leaders and staff were encouraged to evaluate where their gifts and passions best fit. Some adjustments were made so that the team could serve in roles aligned with both their calling and the church’s direction. With renewed clarity and strong participation from the congregation, the church entered the pastoral search process with confidence. In God’s timing, a respected associate pastor emerged as the next lead pastor, and the congregation united around the call. Leaders now look back on that season as a time when honest evaluation prepared the church for the shepherd God already had in place.
In the years since, that clarity has led to new life and new initiatives that are bringing the hope of Jesus in new ways. CrossPoint launched CrossPoint Communities, small, diverse groups that gather weekly around meals, Scripture, and shared spiritual practices. These communities have become central to the church’s discipleship priority of relational living—experiencing transformation together as the family of God.
The church also began Love the Valley, an ongoing commitment to serve the community through practical projects that demonstrate the love of Jesus beyond the walls of the church. A growing emphasis on raising up leaders led to the creation of the Emerging Leader Initiative and a two-year Residency program, both designed to equip the next generation for ministry in neighborhoods and among the nations.
Today, leaders at CrossPoint say the biggest change has been clarity. Instead of many disconnected options, the church now has a clear pathway for people to trust Jesus, grow as disciples, and live on mission. Participation is more focused, engagement is stronger, and there is deep excitement about what God is doing — especially in discipling new believers, investing in younger leaders, and even launching new ministries such as a developing wellness ministry.
Looking back, church leaders point to the VitalChurch season as a turning point. It created space for honest reflection, strengthened leadership, and prepared the congregation for the pastor God would call next. What once felt uncertain became a season marked by clarity, purpose, and renewed hope for the future.
