VitalChurch’s proprietary diagnostic assessment is one of the primary tools we use in the revitalization of churches. Through this analysis, we provide churches with an accurate understanding of the current realties within the church, confirming what is working well and what needs attention. We also provide church leadership with information they can use to make better-informed decisions, help ongoing organizational learning, and address revealed “blind spots.” Based on the issues that are revealed in the analysis, we provide prayerfully-considered recommendations for the church as they move forward. To collect the data, we administer an anonymous online survey with the congregation.
Tier 1 Diagnostic
VitalChurch’s entry-level diagnostic measures a church’s demographics, as well as a congregation’s quality of fellowship, connectivity, and emotional health, along with basic doctrinal knowledge and trust of leadership.
Tier 2 Diagnostic
Our second level of diagnostic analysis dives deeper into all of the data measured in Tier 1, and also includes ratings by congregants of the current ministries of your church, plus one Specific Custom Module that will provide a wider and deeper understanding in a particular area of your choosing. VitalChurch’s diagnostic team can work with your church to develop customized questions to meet the specific needs of your church. Some modules we have developed in the past have measured the following:
- Congregants’ preferences in type of pastor for an upcoming search
- A church’s missional capacity and preparedness
- Trust in leadership
- Quality of congregants’ devotional lives
- Areas of conflict
- Emotional health
Tier 3 Diagnostic
Our third level of diagnostic analysis is a full ministry survey. This includes the entire Tier 2 survey, multiple Custom Modules, three verbatim questions, as well as an on-site visit by the VitalChurch diagnostic team to conduct face-to-face interviews with staff, leadership, and congregants. We follow up the surveys and interviews with an oral report to both the leadership of the church and the congregation, and a comprehensive written report.
In addition, we can administer a personality and spiritual gift audit to potential pastoral candidates that will give direction to elder boards or pastoral search teams.
FAQs about Diagnostic Analysis
Q: Is the diagnostic analysis only for churches with serious issues?
A: No. VitalChurch’s diagnostic analysis is for any church wanting a clear picture of their current reality. It is our opinion that every church should take a Tier 1 or Tier 2 diagnostic assessment every year or two. If your church is in any sort of major transition, it is worth the money, time, and energy to do a Tier 3 assessment, which is a full ministry survey.
Q: What will our church receive at the end of our diagnostic analysis?
A: VitalChurch will provide you with a written report identifying your church’s core issues, along with recommendations to be implemented by your church. The report also organizes extensive data into charts and graphs, along with analysis to each of the questions in the survey.
Q: How long does it take to receive the final report?
A: Tier 1 and Tier 2 reports typically take 4-6 weeks to prepare. Tier 3 reports take 8-10 weeks.
