The work of an interim pastor is never dull! Our team members are constantly finding themselves in new places with new groups of people as they perform the important work of church revitalization. Here’s where our intentional interim pastors are serving right now and a little bit of information about the work they are doing in their respective churches.
Gregg Caruso
Gregg is currently serving as the intentional interim pastor at Christ Community Church in East Taunton, Massachusetts. Since arriving at the church in July 2017, Gregg, along with the church’s leadership team, has been working to fill vacant staff positions, rework the job descriptions of existing staff members, lead the ongoing process of reconciliation among former church elders, and reconstitute the current elder board. Gregg also led the congregation as a whole through a process of looking back on what God has accomplished through the church, and identifying areas in need of improvement.
Steve Miller and Dave Miles
Steve and Dave are working in partnership at Island Church of Whidbey in Langley, Washington. The church found itself without a senior pastor, following two short senior pastor tenures, which had left them with much uncertainty about their future. After completing the church diagnostic, Steve and Dave have been working with the church to improve their discipleship programs, renew their emphasis on children’s and family ministries, clarify their vision, values and mission, and help them identify their next senior pastor.
Dave Brooks
Dave is finishing up his last few months of serving as the interim pastor at First Baptist Church in Reading, Massachusetts. In his time at the church, Dave has helped them completely redesign their small group ministry, led them in training in both disciple-making and personal and corporate spiritual formation, and restructured their governing board. He is currently helping the church search for their new permanent pastor.
Tom Wilkens
For just over a year, Tom has been serving as the intentional interim pastor at Park Church in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. During his time there, Tom has worked with the church to develop and implement a discipleship program, updated the church’s structure and systems, and helped them create a more active biblical community. The church is currently interviewing candidates to fill their lead pastor vacancy, and they hope to have a new permanent pastor in place soon.
Wade Thompson
Wade is currently the interim pastor at Bethany Church, which is near the city of Durham in the United Kingdom. Bethany Church began working with VitalChurch in December 2016, when our organization conducted a diagnostic assessment following the church’s loss of their senior pastor. They then welcomed Wade as their interim pastor in April 2017. During his time at Bethany, the church has seen tremendous spiritual growth. Wade introduced a new curriculum for home groups that has members reading through the Bible in a year. He has also helped the church and its leaders through the process of grieving after losing their senior pastor and has helped move the church forward.
